Today, April 20th, is the day when the Sun passes into the Astronomical constellation of Aries. If it were possible to see the stars during the day, then we would see the stars that make up Aries forming a background to the Sun’s apparent course across the sky.

The dates noted fall one day later than those accepted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), as they have made no official announcement of a change in date in keeping with the Precession of the Equinoxes.
In essence, the Sun passes into any given constellation one day later every 72 years or so. The dates were established by the IAU in 1930, so an adjustment is overdue.
Regardless, this is a time to celebrate the passing of time on an cosmic scale, as the precession takes 25,771.5 years or so to complete. Thus, if we consider December 21st, the Solstice to be the starting point, then we have gone through 120 days thus far, leaving us with 265 left to go to complete this cycle.
So, that puts the beginning of the precession (i.e. the Sun entering Aries on December 21st) somewhere around the year 5050 BC or thereabouts. It also means that we have yet 18,711 years to go before the Sun enters Aries on the December Solstice once again.
It may help us to break away from our increasingly myopic sense of time to acknowledge such long periods, which greatly outlast our lifetimes, as well as that of our civilization. The cosmos is much larger than we are, and an occasional reminder quells excessive hubris.
At least, one hopes.

Some things should never be said―like these phrases. Here, what to say instead.

What Not to Say About Someone’s Appearance

Don’t say: “You look tired.”
Why: It implies she doesn’t look good.
Instead say: “Is everything OK?” We often blurt the “tired” comment when we get the sense that the other person feels out of sorts. So just ask.
Don’t say: “Wow, you’ve lost a ton of weight!”
Why: To a newly trim person, it might give the impression that she used to look unattractive.
Instead say: “You look fantastic.” And leave it at that. If you’re curious about how she got so svelte, add, “What’s your secret?”
Don’t say: “You look good for your age.”
Why: Anything with a caveat like this is rude. It’s saying, “You look great―compared with other old people. It’s amazing you have all your own teeth.”
Instead say: “You look great.”
Don’t say: “I could never wear that.”
Why: It can be misunderstood as a criticism. (“I could never wear that because it’s so ugly.”)
Instead say: “You look so good in skinny jeans.” If you slip, say something like “I could never wear that…because I wasn’t blessed with your long legs.”

What Not to Say in the Workplace

Don’t say: “My current boss is horrendous.”
Why: It’s unprofessional. Your interviewer might wonder when you’d start bad-mouthing her. For all you know, she and your current boss are old pals.
Instead say: “I’m ready for a new challenge” or a similarly positive remark.
Don’t say: “Do you think I’d fit in here?”
Why: You’re the interviewee, not the interviewer.
Instead say: “What do you enjoy about working here?” By all means ask questions, but prepare ones that demonstrate your genuine interest in the company.
Don’t say: “What are the hours like?” or “What’s the vacation policy?”
Why: You want to be seen as someone who focuses on getting the job done.

Don’t say: “Are you pregnant?”
Why: You ask, she’s not, and you feel totally embarrassed for essentially pointing out that she’s overweight.
Instead say: “Hello” or “Great to see you” or “You look great.” Anything besides “Are you pregnant?” or “What’s the due date?” will do. Save yourself the humiliation and never ask.
Don’t say: “Do you plan on breast-feeding?”
Why: The issue can be controversial, and she may not want to discuss her decision publicly.
Instead say: Nothing. Unless you’re very close, don’t ask. If you slip, make up for the blunder by adding, “And do you feel comfortable telling me?”
Don’t say: “Were your twins natural?” or “It must have been hard for your child’s birth parent to give him up.”
Why: You’re suggesting that natural conception is better than in vitro fertilization (IVF) or adoption.
Instead say: To a parent of multiples, try a light “Wow, you have your hands full!” To an adoptive parent, say the same stuff you would to any other parent: “She’s adorable!” or “How old is he?”

What Not to Say to a Single (or Newly Single) Person

Don’t say: “You were too good for him.”
Why: You are basically saying she has bad taste. And you’ll be embarrassed if they ever patch it up.
Instead say: “His loss!” It gets the same point across without disparaging her judgment.
Don’t say: “I’m glad you got rid of him. I never liked him anyway.”
Why: She’ll wonder about your fake adoration for him while they were together.
Instead say: “I’m confident you’ll find someone who will give you exactly what you want.” It focuses on what’s to come, not on the dud you’re glad she’s done with.
Don’t say: “How could someone as perfect as you still be single?”
Why: A statement like this comes off as a backhanded compliment. What she hears is “What’s wrong with you?”
Instead say: “Seeing anyone?” If she’s tight-lipped about her love life, move on to other topics.

What Not to Say During a Fight with Your Beloved

Don’t say: “You always” or “You never” or “You’re a [slob, jerk]” or “You’re wrong.”
Why: Speaking in absolutes like “you always” and “you’re wrong” is playing the blame game, and resorting to name calling makes your partner feel helpless, which puts him on the defensive and makes a bad fight worse.
Instead say: “I’m upset that you left the dishes in the sink again. What can we do so that this stops happening?” Starting with the pronoun I puts the focus on how you feel, not why he’s in the doghouse, and it will make him more receptive to fixing the problem.
Don’t say: “If you really loved me, you would…”
Why: The more you treat your partner as if he’ll never satisfy you, the less satisfied you’ll be. Controlling your partner by imploring him to do something isn’t a good way to build intimacy.
Instead say: “I feel taken for granted when you don’t help around the house. I would feel better if we could…” The best way to keep a productive fight from becoming a dirty one is to be clear about why you’re upset and then offer a solution.

Saudi Arabia unblocks Facebook after hours of ban

Social networking web site Facebook cannot be accessed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for now.
According to an official of Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission, Facebook doesn’t conform with the kingdom’s conservative values. The site is inaccessible since Saturday, but the official said blocking the site is just a temporary measure.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the media.
Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam and religious leaders have strong influence over policy making and social mores.
Pakistan and Bangladesh both imposed temporary bans on Facebook this year. (With reports from AP)

Facebook users  from  Saudi Arabia can check this Yahoo! Answers discussion where other users are also complaining about the alleged Facebook ban in Saudi Arabia.

However, Facebook pages such as user’s own profile page could be accessed. Updates through user’s profile could also be made.
No official announcement has been made by the Saudi government. But according to the Yahoo! Answers thread this might be due to Islam’s mockery in Facebook.

China Super Computer beat Europe and Japan

China Super Computer beat Europe and Japan
China supercomputer that have second ranked fastest machines beat Europe and Japan system. China is forecast to have the fastest super computer.
Dawning nebulae that exist at the National Supercomputing Center in Shenzhen, China reached a speed of 1.27 petaflops computing, equivalent to one thousand trillion mathematical operations each second, in the latest ranking of the world’s 500 fastest computers.
The ratings are published for the public on Monday (31 / 5) and at the International Supercomputer Conference, Hamburg, Germany.
Supercomputers are used by scientists and experts to solve diverse problems, such as weather simulation or automotive design. The fastest computer in the world today is based Jaguar Cray supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennesssee. Last November, this computer has been measured sebedar 1.74 petaflops.
In order of ranking in the previous year, China was in fifth position for the fastest computer, a system based on the National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin, China, where the machine is ranked seventh this time.
United States seem still dominates supercomputer, in which this country with the most machines in the top 500 list. United States has 282 supercomputer into the list of 500 fastest computers in the world, and this amount increased from 227 when combined in this ranking last November.

This is sad but true: Men are 77 percent more likely to die in a car accident than women, according to a study done by Carnegie Mellon University. Our boyfriends should be thanking us when we nag them to “Wear your seatbelt!”

3. We’re better at seeking comfort.

A Mind survey of 2,000 people revealed that women are far more likely than men to talk through their problems. Fifty-three percent of women talk to their friends about what’s stressing them out, as opposed to 29 percent of men.

4. We’re more recession-proof.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80 percent of those who have lost their jobs since December 2007 have been men. Ouch. This could be because male-dominated fields have been hit the hardest, like manufacturing and finance. That really sucks…but hey, maybe it’s time more men became nurses and educators.

5. We graduate college more often.

We already know that female enrollment is higher than male, but the Department of Education’s statistics reveal that men are also less likely than women to graduate and get their bachelor’s degrees. Men are also more likely to take longer than five years to complete their degree.

6. We eat healthier.

A survey of more than 14,000 people, conducted by the University of Minnesota, showed that women choose far healthier foods than men. While men are more likely to chow down on frozen pizza and red meat, women are piling fruits and veggies onto their plates. It all sounds pretty obvious, but we get so much grief for our chocolate addictions that we just had to point this one out!

7. We have stronger immune systems.

No wonder men act like such babies when they have a sniffle — women really do have stronger immune systems than men! If there are little battles going on in our bodies, women have a secret weapon: estrogen. A study done by McGill University indicated that estrogen gives women an edge when it comes to fighting off infections. That’s because estrogen confronts a certain enzyme that often hinders the body’s first line of defense against bacteria and viruses.

8. We live longer.

Among the world’s population of those who are over 100 years old, 85 percent are women, according to the New England Centenarian Study. In general, women continue to live five to 10 years longer than men as well.

9. We’re better managers, especially in this economy.

This one is a little controversial, but a slew of experts are confident that women make greater bosses because they are better listeners, mentors, problem solvers, and multitaskers than their male counterparts. In a recent Daily News article, management expert Jay Forte said, “It’s a very service-oriented economy [right now], so you need employees to be motivated.
