Rahat Touches Heart with “Surili Akhyion Wale”
From Bollywood film Veer, song “Surili Akhyion Wale” is a truly colorful and soft heart touching melody by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Hitting more than three thousand views on You Tube in a couple of days, the composition is a true effect of a colorful sonata. Rahat’s measured and gripped vocals add beauty to the marvelous lyrics penned by Gulzar. After “Man Ki Lagan” and “Jiya Dhadhak Dhadak”, “Surili Akhyion Wale” truly hits everything. Besides Rahat, the other vocalist in the song is Suzanne D’ Mello, who comes and sings for a short while. Rahat brilliantly outshines in the soulful and colorful composition, composed by Sajid-Wajid. The best thing I like about Rahat is maintaining a level of opus throughout the song.
Apart from maintaining a typical jolty and enthusiastic equilibrium needed for a Qawali, Rahat’s voice gets well adjusted for romantic and soft melodic tunes too. Rahat sings “Apna Muqam” in a totally novel way and thrashing symmetry that supports a Qawali well. Restoring the romantic composition, Rahat enthralls everyone this time. The song starts with very soft and mind blowing guitar and a chorus comes somewhere in the between too. The beauty comes from expressive lyrics and Rahat’s precise vocals, specially the lines “Mil ja Kahen Samey Se”, Rahat does true justice with the lyrics and music. Since the movie is about war, history and poignant love, the romantic melody fits into these genres. Veer being an epic saga of bravery and drama, treachery and love, the music does even-handedness with these fields.
